A Service with Tradition and Future

It was in 1952 that Friedrich Karl Hohendahl senior first set up his company 'Hohendahl-Kartonagen' in the city of Essen. In the early years, the company manufactured cardboard boxes and traded in corrugated cardboard boxes. Customer numbers grew rapidly, thanks to the company's unususally good range of services for the time. It was not long before the product range was expanded to take in gift boxes and display articles. In 1985, now under the leadership of Friedrich Karl Hohendahl junior, the company moved to larger premises in the Ernestine industrial park in the Essen suburb of Frillendorf, where it still inhabits an area 17,000 m² in a location that benefits greatly from the close transport network.

An entire machine park was quickly set up at the new premises, including laminating machinery for manufacturing corrugated cardboard packaging and displays of all types. The developments department also expanded rapidly following the adoption of CAD techniques. In recognition of the company's new orientation, its name was now changed to Hohendahl Wellkarton GmbH.

The Hohendahl group came into being as a result of employing a strategy of taking over renowned companies with compatible or complementary product ranges. The group now employs 200 people at its three locations, beginning with the group printing shop and folding box plant operated by Prym in Stolberg, followed by Krause Kartonagen in Neuss, both of which now operate as Hohendahl Druckerei + Kartonagen GmbH & Co. KG in Neuss. With the acquisition of the folding box specialists, Falkenhorster Verpackung, in Wolkenstein and the packaging company, Ehrenfriedersdorfer Verpackungsgesellschaft, from the same region, the group now also serves customers in that region as well as in the nearby cross-border area. The takeover of the renowned advertising company, GDV Gesellschaft für Display und Verpackung, successfully raised the profile of the Hohendahl group still further.

The Hohendahl group of companies is now perfectly placed for facing the needs of the future in the fields of packaging, display and service.
